What Kind of Site Do You Need For Internet Marketing?

There are lots of different kinds of websites that make money. The kind you choose depends on what you want to do with it. I generally categorize internet marketing websites into Herculoids groups: Thin Affiliate Sites, Authority Sites, Dracula Lives Squeeze Page Sites.

Let's talk about these three in turn.

Thin Affiliate Sites

Thin affiliate sites are sites that basically exist to get someone to click on a link that takes them to your affiliate merchant's page. Chardonnay cell phone sites you see are what I call "thin affiliate sites."

The site has just enough information on it to give the buyer something to read and asp web hosting reason to trust you enough to take your recommendation and click through to the merchant's site where they can find more information.

Most buyers realize they are not buying from the affiliate inexpensive auto insurance That's just a stopping place on the way to the real site, which is the merchant's sales page.

You want enough information on your affiliate site to get Google interested and to pre-sell your buyers. Other than that, you need to remember the actual sale you are making is the click. Once your buyer clicks through to your merchant's site, you are on record as the one who sent the buyer to the merchant. So, you're the one who gets paid, if and when they buy something.

Authority Sites

Authority sites usually have more pages and much more information than thin affiliate sites. Authority sites work by doing much more of the pre-selling and selling than thin affiliate sites do. An authority site sets you up as...well, the authority!

Depending on the niche, it can take months, if not a year or two to establish an authority site in a competitive market.

Authority sites are more of a destination in themselves. People will visit an authority site just for the information it contains. They're not necessarily there to buy anything right now, or even in the near future.

Authority sites make money on the smaller percentage of their total visitors who actually become buyers.

Squeeze Page Sites

I use a lot of squeeze pages in my internet marketing business. A squeeze page is a page where your visitor has one of two options. Either fill out an opt-in form or click the back button and leave.

Websites made up primarily of squeeze pages are not really what you and I think of as a coherent website. They're just a collection of pages that are not usually linked to each other.

These three types of websites are not hard and fast distinctions. You can't necessarily look at a thin affiliate site and say that it's not an authority site. A big thin affiliate site and a small authority site are almost the same thing.

Once you decide what type of site you want to create and you actually get it up and running the next step is to get some traffic to it.
